Nature waking up

I really love this time of the year. Nature is changing daily and the whole summer is in front of us. After a fairly long dry and warm season, there was some rain last night. The rain turned the whole nature green. While the kids were playing at the local park, I was trying to document these first green promises of summer.

In the evening the wind was still blowing so I decided to pack my camera and my windsurfing gear and head to the beach. I suspected that the wind might not be sufficient and I was right. There was no wind what so ever when I got to the beach. Instead I got out my camera and took some photos.

The macros from the park are all shot with my Nikkor 50mm/1.4 lens with a 36mm extension tube.

Macros and scenery from Easter

It was another traditional Easter at Jenny’s parent’s summer place. And as usual the weather was amazing: two days of sunshine! The first day we got some snow and I decided to try to take some macros of the snowflakes.

During the next two sunny days, there were some magnificent sun sets, coltsfoot and ladybugs.

Autumn macros

Image

Today I wondered at Laajalahti without any real plan of what I was going to shoot. Mainly just to get some fresh air. At the end of the day I got some macro shots stored on the memory card. Rest of them at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-22+Syksykuvia+Laajalahdelta/ .

For tech geeks

For these shots I used three different setups. Some were shot with the Sigma 18-50/2.8 Macro lens and some with the Nikkor 85/1.8 with either 36 or 56mm of extension tubes.

Flowers, spiders and other miracles of nature

Image

Last weekend we were at our country house. As usual I had my camera along. Some of the shots are at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-09-18+Luontokuvia+landella/

For tech geeks:

Most of the macro shots are taken again with the Nikkor 50/1.4 with the 36mm extension tube. I tried to use the new led ringflash, but the light provided was not sufficient at all. I think that it will be one of those purchases that will end up at the back of the closet.

The “still” water shots are taken with a ND8 and CP filters.

Nature after rain

Image

Yesterday after windsurfing we went to the park with my son. It had just rained so took along my camera hoping to get some after rain macro shots. A couple of more shots can be found at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-09-14+Makroilua/

For tech geeks:

These are again taken with the Nikkor 50/1.4 lens with a 36mm extension tube. A led ring light is used to bring some more light. This was actually the first time I was trying out the ring light. I was a little disappointed at the amount of light it was giving out. But worked better than nothing. Next weekend I am looking forward to going to our summer place and getting some more practice with it.

Rain drops at Nuuksio

Image

Today we had a morning hike with our family in Nuuksio. It was really delightful to see that both of the older kids walked for almost 3 hours. Jenny found some mushrooms, kids ate blueberries and found treasures and I got to take some photos. Some of the photos can be found at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-09-10+Nuuksiossa/

For the tech geeks

I wanted to test how the electronic extension rings work with my Tamron 17-50/2.8 zoom lens. The 36mm extension ring was max. that could be used with the lens, otherwise the focus point would be inside the lens. 🙂

The above macro shot is taken with the Tamro lens and a 20mm extension ring.

Snails…

Image

Today I had 20 minutes before I had to be picking up Ode from his friends place. I decided to pop outside and see if there would be anything interesting to photograph. After rain our forest nearby was filled with snails. Snails and some other macro shots: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-09-06+Makroilua/

For tech geeks:

These photos are again shot with the 36mm extension ring and Nikkor 50/1.4 lens in available light.
