Painter Ode

Image

Today when I got home from the workshop, the kids were painting. I decided to pull out the camera and get some shots. The kids are pretty productive…20 papers per day: cut papers, drawn papers, painted papers… 🙂 I guess they try to keep the forest industry alive.

Rest of the shots are at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-11-27%20Ode%20maalaa/

The lighting for these shots was created with two speedlights. One with a diy grid and an orange gel for the background and the other with a small diy beauty dish. I used my 18-50/2.8 Sigma lens.

Christmas card photoshoot

Image

Things seem to get tougher year by year…yesterday we had a shot at this years Christmas card photo. The above is the one from last year. In addition to getting Oona and Ode in the photo (at the same time), wearing the hats, looking at the camera, trying to smile…this year we had Iisa also. It was a hectic trial and error one hour, but the end result was pretty close to what we had in mind. You have to wait until Christmas to get your card or see the photo from my blog after Christmas, if you’re not on our Christmas card list 🙂

Halloween party portraits

Image

We had our traditional neighborhood Halloween party yesterday. This time it was time for adults to get dressed in costumes as well as the kids! I decided to set up a photo corner to get the costumes documented. Actually it turned out to be a hell of a lot of fun! Please check out the rest of the pictures at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-11-05+Halloween/ .

For tech geeks:

I used two SB28’s as rim lights and one SB80 through an umbrella as key light. The black backdrop is hanging from our bookshelf. The space was very limited, so that kind of shows in some photos. The ISO400 was a mistake from shooting at the party, where I used ISO400.

Siblings

Image

You really have to have luck to get these three to stop in the same picture. Today I almost got lucky as all of them were in the same picture. Unfortunately it was impossible to get them all to look at the camera…maybe next time 🙂

For tech geeks:

This is shot with Sigma 18-50/2.8 lens and a Ray ring flash adapter. In lightroom I used some gradual filters to darken the background. Also some adjustments to the wb and exposure.

Ghost and a fairy

Image

Our own ghost and fairy had a fun night in front of the camera yesterday. Please enjoy the rest of the set at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-02+Naamiaispotretteja+kotona/

For tech geeks:

The kids were playing on our bed. The white bed cover and the white wall provided a good background for some high-key shots. The background is lit with two Nikon SB28s and the subjects are lit with one bare Nikon SB80 reflected from the white wall behind camera, providing almost shadow less results.

Autumn portraits

Image

Today was a beautiful autumn day, the sun was shining and it was +15C. In the afternoon we decided to go out and take some autumn portraits. So we took out a rake and collected almost all of the fallen leaves we could find and got to work.

The complete set of photos is at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-01+Syksypotretteja/ .

For tech geeks:

These shots are taken with one large (~40x100cm) reflector to give some fill light. For the first few shots I used the golden cloth on the reflector and the rest of the set was taken with a silver cloth on the reflector. The lens used was my Nikkor 50/1.4. To keep the lighting stable I shoot fully manual.

New portrait for work

Image

As my appearance has changed a little, I decided to take a self portrait for work to be used on the web site etc. I would like people to be able to recognize me from the photo. 🙂

Old Antti New Antti

For tech geeks

The photo was taken with a remote controller. The camera was on a tripod and I had set the focus manually.

I had one shoot through umbrella as key light and two flashes to give light to the back ground. Kept it super simple.
