Swan and the moon?

Image

We spent the weekend setting the summer place for winter. It was a beautiful weekend with sunshine on Saturday. Saturday evening right after sunset I went to photograph this swan that lives close by.

After coming back I realized a funny looking lighting phenomenon. I think it has to be the moon. What do you think it is?

For tech geeks:

Both of these shots are taken with Sigma 120-300/2.8 lens.

Autumn macros

Image

Today I wondered at Laajalahti without any real plan of what I was going to shoot. Mainly just to get some fresh air. At the end of the day I got some macro shots stored on the memory card. Rest of them at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-22+Syksykuvia+Laajalahdelta/ .

For tech geeks

For these shots I used three different setups. Some were shot with the Sigma 18-50/2.8 Macro lens and some with the Nikkor 85/1.8 with either 36 or 56mm of extension tubes.

Siblings

Image

You really have to have luck to get these three to stop in the same picture. Today I almost got lucky as all of them were in the same picture. Unfortunately it was impossible to get them all to look at the camera…maybe next time 🙂

For tech geeks:

This is shot with Sigma 18-50/2.8 lens and a Ray ring flash adapter. In lightroom I used some gradual filters to darken the background. Also some adjustments to the wb and exposure.

Worker and a witch

Today we had again some fun in-front of the camera with the kids. Ode wanted to be a worker and use the cordless drill. As usual he had to have all the safety equipment we could find.

Oona wanted to be a withch. She even made a nose for herself from cardboard 🙂

All the photos from the session are here: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-15+Duunari+ja+velho/

For tech geeks:

The workman shots are built with two flashes. The background is lit with a gridded SB28. The flash color is slightly altered with a golden gel in-front of it. The key light is a small DIY beauty dish. A small reflector is giving some fill to the shadows.

The witch photos use almost same setup. The background light power is a little higher and the golden gel is changed to a violet gel to give the background some color. The same beauty dish is used as key light.

A dead rabbit from the sandbox

Image

Today we found a nice surprise from the kids sandbox at the local park. The kids were jumping into a hole in the sandbox. After about 10 minutes they shouted that there is a rabbit here. I just replied that no, it’s just the bottom of the sandpit that looks like a rabbit. But could I have been more wrong….Apparently somebody had buried a dead rabbit into the sandbox!! Way to go!!

Ghost and a fairy

Image

Our own ghost and fairy had a fun night in front of the camera yesterday. Please enjoy the rest of the set at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-02+Naamiaispotretteja+kotona/

For tech geeks:

The kids were playing on our bed. The white bed cover and the white wall provided a good background for some high-key shots. The background is lit with two Nikon SB28s and the subjects are lit with one bare Nikon SB80 reflected from the white wall behind camera, providing almost shadow less results.

Dew drops

Image

This morning the grass was frozen. When that started to melt, it created beautiful drops on leaves and flowers. The low, rising sun created interesting light. Some more shots can be found at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-02+Macros/

For tech geeks

These macro shots are again taken with the Nikkor 50/1.4 with the 36mm extension tube. That is becoming my trustworthy companion for the macro shots.
