Macros

The blueberry bushes are filled with flowers, so I am hoping that we will be getting a good blueberry year. The above shot is a close-up of one flower that will be hopefully be a blueberry later on.

A couple of more macros from this morning are at:

For tech geeks:

These macros are again shot with the 36mm extension tube and the Nikkor 50/1.4 lens. This has become my favorite macro setup. The magnification ratio is sufficient (0,87) for these nature macros and the closest focus distance (10,8cm) is a few centimeters from the lens so there is some possibility of getting some light into the photos. For “bug macros” I would like to be staying a little bit further away, now almost all bugs are crawling away as I try to approach them.

Nature waking up

I really love this time of the year. Nature is changing daily and the whole summer is in front of us. After a fairly long dry and warm season, there was some rain last night. The rain turned the whole nature green. While the kids were playing at the local park, I was trying to document these first green promises of summer.

In the evening the wind was still blowing so I decided to pack my camera and my windsurfing gear and head to the beach. I suspected that the wind might not be sufficient and I was right. There was no wind what so ever when I got to the beach. Instead I got out my camera and took some photos.

The macros from the park are all shot with my Nikkor 50mm/1.4 lens with a 36mm extension tube.

Macros and scenery from Easter

It was another traditional Easter at Jenny’s parent’s summer place. And as usual the weather was amazing: two days of sunshine! The first day we got some snow and I decided to try to take some macros of the snowflakes.

During the next two sunny days, there were some magnificent sun sets, coltsfoot and ladybugs.

Winter wonderland

I’m having a little flu that is keeping me from doing any sports. To get some fresh air, I decided to go to Kartanonkoski in Espoo. As it was -26C this morning and sunshine, I was expecting to find a steaming stream and so I did.

Kartanonkoski is located in western Espoo.  I found the place last summer, thanks to my neighbor who kindly showed the place. A google maps link to the place: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=202175199404043962572.0004b837c3c63797a3001&ie=UTF8&ll=60.198609,24.582381&spn=0.020795,0.066047&t=h&z=15&vpsrc=6&iwloc=0004b837c3c9e11446fb2.

First training session for the traditional “Kaukopartiohiihto”

Kaukopartiohiihto is a traditional skiing event held at Utti. The biggest difference to normal ski events is that you are using Finnish Army skis. They offer distances 75km, 150km and 300km. Last year we targeted for the 75km and 12 hours. We ended up skiing over 80km and almost 15 hours. This year we will be wiser (hopefully..) and try to aim again for 75km and 12hours. If you are interested in finding more about the event, please check out the organizers web site: http://www.kouvu.fi/index.php?page=kutsu

For this event we had our first training session yesterday in Nuuksio, Espoo. It was amazing weather and no technicals…so a very nice 1,5 hours of skiing in the magnificent winter wonderland where we saw more deer poop than people.

For tech geeks:

I had a D70 frame with the Sigma 18-50/2.8 lens along, because I wanted the combo to be able to fit into my small back pack.

Beautiful first day of the new year!

If judged by the look of the first day, this year will be a magnificent year! Today we had -5C and sunshine! What else could you possible hope for at this time of the year? …well…the obvious is of course missing: SNOW

I had my camera along as we went to the local park.
