It was full moon (or at least to an amateurs eye it looked like one 🙂 ) today. So when we got home I quickly put the kids in the shower and headed outside for some quick shots of the moon. It really is magnificent how much the moon gives light. You could really see the difference as there were periodically thick clouds covering the moon and everything would be pitch dark. Couple of more shots of the moon at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-12-11%20Full%20moon/

Frosty nature
Yesterday was a beautiful day. In addition to taking photos of the kids, I was able to capture a few frames with the frosty nature. Last year around this time we had ½ meter of snow, quite a contrast compared to this years weather. Rest of the shots are at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-12-03%20Frosty%20nature/?action=slideshow
Frosty macros
Image
Today the temperature finally dropped below zero. It was a clear night so there was beautiful morning frost. While taking the kids to play outside, I took my camera along to capture some macros of the morning frost. Rest of the set is at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-11-20%20Frosty%20macros/
For tech geeks:
These macros are all shot with Nikkor 85/1.8 lens with a 36mm extension tube.
Swan and the moon?
Image
We spent the weekend setting the summer place for winter. It was a beautiful weekend with sunshine on Saturday. Saturday evening right after sunset I went to photograph this swan that lives close by.
After coming back I realized a funny looking lighting phenomenon. I think it has to be the moon. What do you think it is?
For tech geeks:
Both of these shots are taken with Sigma 120-300/2.8 lens.
Autumn macros
Image
Today I wondered at Laajalahti without any real plan of what I was going to shoot. Mainly just to get some fresh air. At the end of the day I got some macro shots stored on the memory card. Rest of them at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-22+Syksykuvia+Laajalahdelta/ .
For tech geeks
For these shots I used three different setups. Some were shot with the Sigma 18-50/2.8 Macro lens and some with the Nikkor 85/1.8 with either 36 or 56mm of extension tubes.
A dead rabbit from the sandbox
Image
Today we found a nice surprise from the kids sandbox at the local park. The kids were jumping into a hole in the sandbox. After about 10 minutes they shouted that there is a rabbit here. I just replied that no, it’s just the bottom of the sandpit that looks like a rabbit. But could I have been more wrong….Apparently somebody had buried a dead rabbit into the sandbox!! Way to go!!
Dew drops
Image
This morning the grass was frozen. When that started to melt, it created beautiful drops on leaves and flowers. The low, rising sun created interesting light. Some more shots can be found at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-02+Macros/
For tech geeks
These macro shots are again taken with the Nikkor 50/1.4 with the 36mm extension tube. That is becoming my trustworthy companion for the macro shots.
Misty autumn morning
Image
Today was the first cold autumn morning this year. It was only 2,7C around 7 o’clock…The above shot is taken around 9:30 at Sahajärvi in Nuuksio, Finland. A couple of more shots from the same scene are at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-10-02+Autumn+scenery/
Flowers, spiders and other miracles of nature
Image
Last weekend we were at our country house. As usual I had my camera along. Some of the shots are at http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-09-18+Luontokuvia+landella/
For tech geeks:
Most of the macro shots are taken again with the Nikkor 50/1.4 with the 36mm extension tube. I tried to use the new led ringflash, but the light provided was not sufficient at all. I think that it will be one of those purchases that will end up at the back of the closet.
The “still” water shots are taken with a ND8 and CP filters.
Nature after rain
Image
Yesterday after windsurfing we went to the park with my son. It had just rained so took along my camera hoping to get some after rain macro shots. A couple of more shots can be found at: http://kansala.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Antti/2011-09-14+Makroilua/
For tech geeks:
These are again taken with the Nikkor 50/1.4 lens with a 36mm extension tube. A led ring light is used to bring some more light. This was actually the first time I was trying out the ring light. I was a little disappointed at the amount of light it was giving out. But worked better than nothing. Next weekend I am looking forward to going to our summer place and getting some more practice with it.
